  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Dry Cough and Heavenly Vault are teaming up once again, this time to give an overdue vinyl release to “What is Imposed Must Be Endured”, the debut album from Blind Monarch.

The Sheffield quartet play punishing, despondent doom in the vein of Burning Witch, with a little bit of Grief-style sludge thrown in to help keep things suitably rotten.
The album is made up of four lengthy tracks; much of which is played at volume, with pulverising distortion worthy of Corrupted, though the listener is afforded brief moments of respite courtesy of atmospheric flourishes Bell Witch would be proud of.

The album was originally released on CD & Cassette back in April 2019 by Black Bow Records, but for whatever reason flew under the radar of many, something that helped influence our decision to give this monster of an album the vinyl treatment we feel it deserves.

Blind Monarch are easily one of the best doom bands around right now, and it still amazes us that this was their very first release; there are established bands half a dozen releases into their career who have never come close to putting out a record as impressive as “What Is Imposed Must Be Endured”. When the world returns to some semblance of normality, we can’t wait to see how they top this.

“What Is Imposed Must Be Endured” will be released on double LP, housed in a 350gsm gatefold sleeve, so as to showcase the stunning artwork of Thomas Hooper.

    Mastered by James Plotkin (KHANATE/O.L.D.)

Years pass by Without day, without night Old and blind Withering alive in a hell of my design Gazing into myself  Spectres stalk the landscapes of my mind Wilderness drags me into it’s thorned embrace Piercing, tearing the fabric of my thoughts Lost in the shadow of the dark peak Withering alive Paradise has fallen into the void Where hope is a ghost and light is denied The eulogy unspoken Funeral pyre without flame Constellations abandon the sky As suffering breathes my name
2.
Mother I know thee not Called forth from infinite womb Nurtured in hostile cradle I am of thee, yet estranged An intruder trapped in a once familiar dream Able to touch but unable to feel The moon cries out to me Before her council of reverent trees This sacred grove, unchanged by time Where grasping branches groan and bind And whisper secrets into the night Atavistic thread through Earth, flesh and sky Ancient language long lost in time Forgotten, familiar words fall without form Like shapeless silhouettes slip between standing stones What was, is and shall be Lost on the wind and out of reach

Sunrise New dawn Light bathes the earth once more Frost thaws New growth I feel new life take hold Sunrise, sun fall  Darkness clings to these cold walls Nothing breathes  Nothing grows Nothing lives  And no one knows Lord of this place, light dare not penetrate A blind monarch in a kingdom of despair  Reflects on hollow conquests Sips from a poisoned chalice Waged a battle for a shadow crown A kingdom which never existed The horns fell silent at my coronation None to praise the blind monarch Glasses empty, no words spoken None to praise the blind monarch Funeral inauguration None to praise the blind monarch Head hung heavy, wreathed in shadow None to praise the blind monarch Mind corrupted, frail, naked None to praise the blind monarch Solitary ceremony Performed in blackness and filth Witnessed by the worms With bare hands I buried all I lost And am what remains Sunrise, sun fall Darkness clings to these cold walls Nothing breathes Nothing grows Nothing lives And no one knows Sunrise, sun fall  Darkness clings to these cold walls Nothing breathes And nothing grows None to praise the blind monarch

Living Altar 17:12
Writhing Trembling Moaning  Breathing Waking Dreaming Willing Bleeding Living Altar Pillars of reason crumble to dust Temples to logic burn Mausoleums, impotent to fetter the violence of our nature Shattered prisons, ruins, reclaimed by the essence of the wilderness Monuments to patriarchal control Schizophrenic despair, awakened in the heath top moonlight In her presence reason falters Kneel before her, living altar The visceral overcomes the rational The lunar eclipses the solar As blood begins to flow down the living altar Dismal ritual  In a hostile temple Blackened ministry of the nocturnal sisterhood Chaos stirs within our veins  And over reason chaos reigns Writhing Trembling Moaning  Breathing Waking Dreaming Willing Bleeding In her presence reason falters Kneel before her, living altar The visceral overcomes the rational The lunar eclipses the solar As blood begins to flow down the living altar
